RAMSEY, N.J. – December 3, 2007 – Konica Minolta Sensing Americas, Inc. (KMSA), a worldwide leader in measuring, matching, reproducing, and communicating color and light, announce the CS-2000, a new spectroradiometer. The CS-2000 is a high-speed, high-accuracy instrument for measuring the luminance and chromaticity of various display devices such as plasma displays, LCDs, and LEDs.

The CS-2000 is capable of measuring luminance as low as 0.003cd/m2, the world’s top level of ultra-low-luminance measurement performance, enabling contrast measurements of 100,000:1. It provides the superior measurement performance essential for the manufacture and development of various light-emitting devices, including top-class displays. In addition, it offers changeable measurement angles to measure not only general areas, but also extremely small regions.

“With high-definition TV technology and capabilities quickly becoming the standard, it is possible to display gradations with contrasts of 100,000:1 to provide an even more realistic feeling,” said Nick Lena, business unit manager for Radiometric Products and Solutions, Konica Minolta Sensing Americas, Inc. “For this purpose, technical competition to display blacker blacks in particular is becoming ever more intense, increasing demands for an instrument that can measure extremely low luminance. The CS-2000 provides this capability without compromising high accuracy spectral analysis.

The CS-2000 builds upon the success of previous Konica Minolta spectroradiometers such as the CS-1000 series, but with 100 times greater sensitivity. These instruments have established the industry benchmark for display luminance measurement and have been highly praised by companies involved in the development and manufacture of display devices.” The CS-2000 is a culmination of Konica Minolta’s optical technology and state-of-the-art signal processing technologies, and is positioned as a Konica Minolta flagship model,” said Lena.
Capable of faster, accurate measurements down to ultra-low luminance of 0.003cd/m2:


The CS-2000 achieves an additional digit of performance compared to previous models, providing high-accuracy measurements down to 0.003cd/m2 at a measurement angle of 1° and enabling stable measurements in the ultra-lo w-luminance region. In addition, it maintains a half bandwidth of less than 5nm (considered necessary for measuring color) throughout the entire measurement wavelength range, enabling precise color measurements with true 1nm data. Memory capacity allows storing 100 measurements.


Calculations include CRI, L*a*b*, CIE Assessment of Daylight Simulation Metamerism Index. Selectable measurement angles enable measurements of large to small areas:

With the CS-2000, measurement angles of 0.1°, 0.2°, and 1° can be selected. This enables a standard minimum measuring diameter of Ø0.5mm; when optional close-up lenses are used, areas as small as Ø0.1mm can be measured.
High repeatability:

High repeatability is achieved using a design that thoroughly eliminates mechanical and electrical noise sources.

Low polarization error:

Polarization errors are reduced to 2%, enabling more stable measurements of display devices such as LCDs that use polarized light.

Easy operation with a color LCD screen and simple key pad arrangement:

The multi-function operation panel with color LCD screen and keypad are located on the back of the instrument. With the simple but comprehensive operation panel, you can directly select necessary functions including Spectral Graph Illuminance capable of measuring foot-candles and lux.
